# Phishing Awareness and Prevention

Phishing attacks usually occur in three stages:

1. **Reach Out:** Scammers contact you through emails, texts, or social media messages.
2. **Gain Trust or Arouse Greed:** They manipulate you by pretending to be trustworthy or by offering fake rewards and profits.
3. **Steal Data or Money:** The ultimate goal is to obtain sensitive information or funds.

You can prevent phishing by staying informed and gaining experience in identifying each step.

**Step 1: The Initial Contact**

Be cautious of unknown messages, even from friends’ accounts, as they could be compromised. Avoid clicking on links or providing sensitive information without verification.

**Step 2: Building Trust or Exploiting Greed**

Scammers often create a sense of urgency or excitement. Beware of messages offering rewards, big profits, or threats like account suspension.

### Phishing Examples and How to Handle Them

**Example 1: Fake Hipo Reward Program**
